... sign up

Step 1

Put this number in your phone. This is the number that you send everything to:

     +447816012719

Step 2

Send a text message to that number, with the following information:

     !add <insert your name here>

(don't put the angled brackets in, don't miss the '!')

All done!

That's it! You can now make entries to the log by sending text messages to the same number. The entry should arrive, network permitting, in the log within about 2 minutes of you sending the text message.

... set your password

Your password allows you to change your name or set your picture. You can only set your password from the phone you signed up with, but you can reset it whenever you want.

Step 1

Send a text message to the weblog number (shown above) containing this:

!password <insert the password you want here>

(again, you don't need the angled brackets, don't miss the '!')

All done!

Your password is now set to whatever you specified in the text message. This password allows you to login to your personal area and change things like your username, password or theme. You can login here.

... set personal descriptions (the bits of text after your name)

What you need to do is login and go and set some. It's down the bottom of the prefs area. Enter the description you want and hit add.

Why is HTML stripped from my entries?

HTML is stripped from incoming text messages for reasons of purity and security. Allowing users to insert, for example, javascript into a text message which is then run on any copmuter that views the weblog, could be considered by some to be a security vulnerability. This could allow me, for instance, to read your session and username, which would allow me to change your password or alter my personal settings.

Secondly, it keeps all the messages looking the same. And troublesome links out.

Note

Adding yourself to the weblog will not make a message appear on the log, nor will changing your password. If nothing appears to have happened, wait a few minutes (the weblog checks for new messages every second) then send something to the log, or try logging in.

The weblog is provided as-is, with no warranty as to the social value of such a piece of software. If you have a problem/want a message changed/ want to buy the weblog/have a new theme then please feel free to contact gaby@vanhegan.net who will answer all queries.
